Based on your discussion on the situation in Afghanistan, what is a good solution to end the conflict in this country? Should the U.S. send more troops? Should it negotiate with the Taliban? Should it focus its effort on Pakistan?

    Hello dears!
This is Qais Ahmad student of Abdul Wakil high school jalalabad city.
The current situation in Afghanistan is complex; Afghans are suffering with a bad situation, in the side of education and security.
In my opinion besides sending more troops to the Afghanistan US should struggle in training of Afghan military because, US don’t know the culture of Afghans and they don’t know about their feelings, US troops are killing more innocent people in Afghanistan, before a month they had a bombing on a house in which there was a wedding and all the member of that wedding were killed.
Pretend that you are afghan and a troop of military come to your house in the middle of night and attack on your family and kill you family what will you do to that troop? Wont you stand against them?
This event have happened to an afghan family, the people who are called Taliban they are all afghans and they are against all these kind of activity, so therefore if our military become strong and US let our own troops for the actions I think we can make peace between all people who are disappointed from afghan government, now a days terrorists are getting more power if we think they are not snake that they are soil, they have expenses where from they fulfill these expenses? Its clear that from one hand the international community is helping terrorists and from other hand they are just tracking and saying that we are trying to finish terrorism, lots of terrorists are based in Pakistan so why US troops don’t go there and finish its source they should find its source and finish, US cant finish it in Afghanistan, the only way is to train afghan military and leave the military actions to them.

In the name of all mighty Allah.
To end the current conflict in Afghanistan first of all we must know about the enemies of Afghanistan that what they are want. For what reason they are conflicting with us.
If the government of Afghanistan accepts their demands I thank in that time we can end this conflict otherwise…
In my mind the US must not send more soldiers to the Afghanistan instead of sending troops they must strong the Afghanistan army.
In one solider of US comes I thank 20000,30000 thousand Dollars so this is a huge expense they must expenditures these money in Afghanistan soldiers and strong them.
In that time we can save and end the conflicting by our own arms.

Hello to all how are you? I hope you are all fine and doing well.
I think now the situation of Afghanistan is little good
But some places in Afghanistan are those which doesn’t have any good security
And there is fight between Talibans and insurgents so the situations of these provinces are so bad and many peoples killed from these two sides one is NATO and Afghanistan army and second one is insurgents so the government make and planed the strategy by which the insurgents satisfy and didn’t do fight with NATO and afghan forces in result the public people doesn’t receive any difficulties.
So the America send many troops to Afghanistan I think inside this they will give training to afghan national army and be strong it to fight with insurgents and remove it from Afghanistan it is also correct when the NATO forces help with afghan national army and they do the operation with collaboration so if the America want to send troops to Afghanistan it will have positive results and negative results
As we see tow years ago the NATO bum baring in nangarhar province shinwary district
They didn’t find correct information about this place in which they bombarding
They must find correct information from this area people and they must do operation with collaboration with afghan national army if we see this place in this area was weeding they killed many sinless peoples in bombarding there was not any insurgents and any talibs why? So if they will find complete and correct information from the people and the forces of this place in result many sinless peoples were didn’t killed that is the negative points of sending of troops to Afghanistan so if America send many troops to Afghanistan it doesn’t mean when the America won the fight from insurgents
But with this the terrorism will improve in the result Talibans and insurgent will strong and the countries, which didn’t have any good relation ship with America those countries will support Talibans and give him weapons to Talibans and ready them to stand against NATO forces and afghan forces. Also it is so good points when the America want to send troops to Afghanistan with this over there in Pakistan the houses of these areas insurgent will damaged and finished the terrorism from Pakistan and Afghanistan
So America find the donor of countries which are doesn’t have any good relation ship with them and they support Talibans to stand against of NATO and afghan national armies.

    Hi.
This is irshad ahmad from Afghanistan Ningrahar.
According to me the best way to finish the war in Afghanistan.
Is this that peace with the Taliban and negotiate with them that what is the reason that they are fighting and they don’t accept the foreign in Afghanistan.
    And, about more troops that.
Should they send more troops to Afghanistan or not?
No they should not send more troops to Afghanistan.
There for, the troops which already sent what they did?
According to me that did nothing just they killed the Taliban and also some innocent people.
They should solve the problem I mean that should stop that war.
So according to me no need of more troops to Afghanistan.
    Thanks

As I said during the debate I believe that the US should educate the Afghanistan government and train its own troops so that they may fight for what they believe. At the moment, the US is fighting for what America believes, not what Afghanis want. The US has no right to decide what and what is not right in another country. This being said, I do not believe the current Afghanistan government is stable enough to just accept weapons from the US and fight. Both the government and the troops should be educated in ways that afghanistan will benefit from.
Sending in more troops would have a negative effect on the country. The troops that are already there are not helping the situation. As the students of Afghanistan said during our debate, they do not feel safe (please correct me if I am wrong). The the troops’ effort to finding Al-Qaeda, they are killing more innocent civilians than terrorists. This is wrong. Sending in more troops will only increase the amount of killings. It could also anger the Afghani people because they might think that more troops only means more deaths since that is was is happening now. If the US feels like they NEED to be a part of this war, then they should try to help through talks or counter intelligence, NOT brute force.
    Insha’allah

The US should more focus on Pakistan in this critical circumstances, Pakistan ISI is parent of Taliban. Pakistan ISI brought taliban to Afghanistan, ISI is responsibile for all this. The roots of terrorism should be taken out from Pakistan, then Afghanistan can be stay safe from terrorism.

    Hello!
The situation of Afghanistan is very complex that can’t be solved by operations it needs a very careful strategy that can end this bad situation and also to find the respect to the government in the hearth and mind of Afghan people.
To make the situation of Afghanistan Afghan government and its alliance must negotiate with Afghan Taliban and also the must focus on Pakistan because every one knows that the main talibanization point is in Pakistan so if the US and their collations don’t focus on Pakistan they won’t end this war even the fight Taliban for hundred years. Negotiating with Afghan Taliban is also very important because they are Afghans and the have the right of living and governing in Afghanistan if the accept the constitution of Afghanistan and respect Afghan government.

    Hello friends,
Well I will say about us troops and the conflict in Afghanistan.
As we know that election has been finished and hamid kerzai is selected for the second time. Now the situation is alittle better than before and hope the root of conflicting finish. We should stand on our own feet so we are needy to make our army powerful. So therefore we don’t want to increase the US troops in Afghanistan. Well as our some friends say that the Americans troops should feed our armies and aid with them and train our army. This is a nice idea. And a bout Taliban I want to that they are terrorists and some of our neighbor countries support them or some others. They are not the real talib. We can not say talib those people who make explosions in the mosques and kill the innocent people.
Hope I didn’t make any mistake.

    Hi everyone,
First I wanted to say thank you for participating with us in our debate. It was very beneficial for us to get insight to what you think of the situation in Afghanistan, especially since you all are witnessing the actions first hand.

I do not believe that the Unites States should send more troops to Afghanistan. In total, there have been 68,000 troops already sent over and I do not believe that they have done anything productive so far. Adding more troop will not do anything but kill more innocent Afghanistan civilians. I believe that the soldiers should continue training the Afghani military and move out of the city and protect the Pakistan/Afghanistan border in order to rid of the terrorists.

    I wish you all well,
    Sheyda

    Hello,

I would also like to thank you for participating in the discussions with us: They were both informative and extremely enjoyable!

With regards to the situation in Afghanistan, I too agree that the US should not deploy additional troops. Our focus should now be directed towards training the Afghan military, protecting the country’s borders with Pakistan, and helping to stabilize the country in a peaceful manner.

It is pretty clear by now that we are accomplishing nothing more than interference and destruction in a country that does want and isn’t benefitting from our intervention.

As far as this being a defensive move, all is speculative and could be said of any place. We cannot go to war with every government that we do not like or intervene every time a government that we do like is threatened by insurgent forces that we are opposed to.

Additionally, the entire underpinning of our presence in the Middle East is based heavily on fallacious grounds: We have declared a “war on terror,” and a military war against a concept is unwinnable by definition.

I wish you all the best

I learned a great deal from our discussion on the situation in Afghanistan. The most important thing I learned was about how the US should not send more troops into Afghanistan but the US should “lend” troops to the Afghan forces. What i got out of hearing this is that the troops presence in Afghanistan is seen as foreign occupation. If the troops were to work with Afghan forces then the people in Afghanistan would feel like their own military is taking care of the situation. The US should negotiate with the Taliban because using military force is not working. A political tactic is needed to resolve the conflict. Fighting the Taliban will just push them out of Afghanistan and into another country. This sounds good except for the fact that this will have to be done again in the next country they occupy.

Hussain, I am wondering who you believe the real Taliban is. Regardless of whether or not a certain Taliban official actively commit an act of terror, the Taliban in general has provided a breeding ground for terrorism. Therefore, anyone who associates with the Taliban should be considered associated with terrorists. In addition, the Taliban has proven to be a ruthless regime that limits freedoms, and commits horrible acts of violence on its own citizens. So Hussain, who is the real Taliban?

The Afghanistan government is unstable at the moment and I believe that the U.S. should help. The U.S. should listen to the Afghans and do what they want to do with there government and not what the U.S. wants to do. I feel that the civilians are getting a bad taste of what the U.S. is all about. The U.S. should be helping the cause not hindering it by killing Afghan civilians. This is making the U.S. look just as bad as the terrorist groups that they are trying to keep out. I do think that the U.S. should keep sending troops to help train the military in Afghanistan. The U.S. should make their military strong and knowledgeable. The U.S. can also help Afghan civilians by giving them proper education so that one day they will be able to have a strong and stable government. It will help bring more freedom to the Afghan population.

Well it seems that large scale military involvement against individual groups is ineffective. As we saw in the Cold War, the massive forces that the Soviets sent out to fight the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan failed on a large scale. Right now, the US forces in Afghanistan are accomplishing little beyond causing collateral damage and tightening tensions between themselves, the Taliban, and the Afghan government. At the same time, if the US pulled out all involvement, there would likely be massive fallout between the Afghan government and the Taliban. So, the US definitely needs to either largely reduce its military involvement to a much smaller scale operation, or pull out all military and replace it with law enforcement. Either way, there needs to be negotiation with both the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban, with the hope of creating a peaceful solution between the two.

    Hello Students,
Thank you so much for contributing your thoughts into the blog. Having that conversation with you guys really helped my understanding of what exactly is going on in Afghanistan. Clearly, the United States’ effort throughout the country has significantly weakened civilian life and it is clear that you want all foreign troops to leave. I believe that the troops should be taken out of Afghanistan and we should focus more attention on Pakistan and Al-Qaeda. If negotiating with the Taliban is the best way to help Afghans out then we should continue efforts to develop a dialog with moderate Taliban members.

Thank you all for contributing your ideas and opinions to the blog. Talking with all of you greatly helped our classes understanding and ideas about the situation in Afghanistan. Your point and opinion that the United States should help train Afghanistan forces to combat terrorists was a strong one. Undoubtedly, the United St t ates has contributed to the death of innocent Afghanistan civilians, which is not intended but ultimately America’s fault. In response to the question I do not believe the United States should send more troops to Afghanistan for several reasons. For one Afghanistan civilians obviously feel the United States troops are doing more harm than good. In addition no matter how many troops the United States sends, the situation will not improve. As a result to achieve a better solution the United States should negotiate with less extreme Taliban. The United States should not negotiate with extreme Taliban because they have terrible human rights and treatment of Afghanistan people. Before negotiating with certain Taliban the Untied States should make sure they do not harbor terrorists who pose a threat to our country. When this solution is resolved, America should focus on Pakistan to prevent and eliminate high value terrorist, We should also focus on Pakistan more to prevent their nuclear weapons arsenal from falling into extremists hands.

The US should not send more troops to Afghanistan. Sending more troops will just create more violence in that area and rise anti-American hostility. We watched a video on Tuesday, where the Former CIA Sageman and General Myers both said that to fight terrorist groups, you cannot only use military force, you need to use law enforcement, politics, and economics. Clearly, only using military force is not working, for we have been in Afghanistan for about 8 years. However, I do not think that the US should start removing their troops yet. The US need to make sure that the Afghanistan military is strong and organized enough to defeat terrorist groups. I think that the US should always keep a close eye on Afghanistan to prevent another safe haven for terrorist groups.

I believe that it would beneficial for The United States to send more troops to Afghanistan, for the time being. After reading a few comments from Hussain and Irshad Ahmad, the general consensus is that they do not want more troops to be deployed to Afghanistan. With more troops, The U.S. could continue training Afghan troops and stop the violence internally with the Taliban. I do not believe that the U.S. should negotiate with the Taliban. The Taliban has had ties with terrorist organizations in the past, and by some people are considered terrorists. The U.S. has a policy that they do not negotiate with terrorists. If members of the Taliban want to be part of the government, they should run for official positions.

    Hello students,

I also want to thank you all for sharing your ideas with the us in this blog and also in the discussion we had last week. The discussion helped me to see the situation in a different light and understand what is really going on.

I think that US should not send more troops into Afghanistan because more troops equals more innocent civilian lives lost and more bloodshed. The US has a preconceived notion that sending in more troops means guaranteed victory. This notion is wrong. Sending in more troops triggers more Afghan resentment towards the US.

This war is not like every other war the US has fought. This is different. The strategies that were used to win wars and battles in other countries will not work in Afghanistan. There is a huge culture difference. Like Fawad said in the discussion (correct me if I am wrong), “the US does not understand Afghan culture. They are not Afghans.” The US should get to know and understand Afghan culture before making any hasty moves.

In class today we watched a video called Rethinking Afghanistan and specialists Stephen Kinzer said, “the Afghan policy revolves around the idea of do not invade my complex and my village”-the is part of the situation. The US is breaking into homes and killing innocent people. This isn’t right. Brute force cannot be used to win this war since it will only result in more casualties for both sides; you cannot bring change by force. The only way to go is through negotiations. I believe that US could work something out by negotiating with the moderate Taliban members if this action will help Afghans. I also agree with Emma when she said “the US should educate the Afghanistan government and train its own troops.” If the US does this they will be fighting for the desired outcome that Afghanistan wants.

    Best wishes

Sending more troops will help the U.S. control the situation. By having an increase in our troops, we will be able to become mentally and physically more powerful. Mentally this would intimidate, and physically this would simply add numbers to our forces in Afghanistan.
The U.S. should not negotiate with the Taliban, the group is committing to many crimes. The Taliban has historically and currently treat woman with little respect, and there has been proof of the Taliban actually killing these woman. The Taliban is also using guerilla warfare, this is not okay. It is understandable to some extent that they want to control their own country, but guerilla warfare tactics are not the way they should go by. The U.S. should focus on Pakistan, however I feel that Afghanistan is also in need of dyer assistance. In the future if the U.S. remains in Afghanistan and Al Qaeda decides to step in and help out the Taliban, that is when we make our move. But until then, just monitor the country of Pakistan and do not send troops into the country just yet.

    Dear US Friends,

Thanks for the individual nice ideas about Afghanistan. Each person is looking to Afghanistan in his/her own eyes. There are some facts that every one of us should accept. The US and international community has been failed in Afghanistan in bringing peace and stability in this war thorn country. Only few warlord benefited from the international aid. The poor people of Afghanistan are the same as they were during bad regime of Taliban.

The situation of Afghanistan is worse than Taliban regime now. There is more unemployment, violence against women, high corruption, high misuse of children and women, high drugs business, high civilian killing, lack of justice etc.

The US only supports the high commander of previous Mujahideen regime who are also as Taliban. Russia supports northern alliance warrior such as Dostam, Rabani, Dr. Abdullah, etc. Also US gives them money and power to do their anti humanitarian actions in Afghanistan.

The US should send more troops to Afghanistan to be able to control this worse condition, once they got full control of Afghanistan, then they should gradually delegate responsibilities to the right Afghan people in Afghanistan. This will be big mistake of US, if they negotiate with Taliban, Taliban will not be changed, if they get power in Afghanistan government, They will start work to bring their regime. You get Atomic power from Pakistan, otherwise terrorist will get that and use it. Who guarantees security of Pakistan Atomic power? How US assure that Pakistan is friend of US in anti terrorism war? Who assure us that Pakistan is not enemy of Afghanistan?

    Thanks,

    Hello dear all
first I would to present my warm greeting and best wishes
Dear all about the Afghanistan it is enough that they are Muslims and Muslims are the greatest people in the world
In last 30 years war Afghanistan was in a bad situation and our people faced with so difficulties and have sadness but they didn’t lose their afghani courage and ambition they were really courageous, but after 30 year war when the president Hameed Karzy selected for presidential the situation step by step better, the education system better, schools great and the security also become well, afghani armies work honestly
The war had really negative effects Afghanistan people really want o rivalry their selves with other countries and equal their selves and you know better that there is economic problems and more

Dears! we may have patience, patience is really great thing in once every things cant be done it will step by step will be great, a country will destroy in a day but a country cant be build in day, specially that country that have faced with 30 years war and 20 years destroying how will build in once we should have patience

As you asked, the Afghanistan security will be great when the USA troop work honestly here and when ever there will union and unity and afghani tan will be in a peace full situation
Also about this Issue I would like to say that when the bribes and corruption will finish from the all administration it will be great here in Afghanistan the ability and knowledge no any administration look after it but there are giving and taking bribe and also have reference is improving in Afghanistan day by day, posts are selling in Afghanistan and no any one can get occupation until he didn’t give bribes
